The Science School Bus

My name is Michael Jones, a middle school science teacher at an International Baccalaureate school in California. With the pandemic and isolation students more than ever need more than just zoom classes to get engaged, particularly in science, so I am building a Science School Bus. This Science School Bus will tour the United States discovering science wonders creating an educational video series that aligns with middle school curriculum .
The Science School Bus is a project born out of the need to provide today's students with something new and engaging that adheres to Covid guideline for education, with Google Slide presentations, worksheets and activities that can be done at home. The Science School Bus, voyage begins in southwest Nebraska and ends in Sacramento, California uncovering the wild science beyond the walls of the classroom.
Videos and basic curriculum will be free to learners of all ages and offered through the Science Teacher Jones YouTube page as well as the Science School Bus website, currently under construction.
Like so many of my students, as a child, I struggled with ADD and felt like I didn't "fit in" with many of my peers. For me, science was a positive escape that started in the 2nd grade with the discovery of a few fossils in a rock pile next to the playground. That single discovery took me all over the country in high school. As a student, I qualified and participated in two International Science and Engineering Fairs as well as being the only student in the entire state of Nebraska to ever be selected as one of the top 40 students nationwide to participate in, what at that time was, The Westinghouse Science Talent Search. From Mississippi Beach to the White House in Washington D.C., science allowed me to experience adventures I never thought possible and provided me with a sense of purpose.
Science is a subject that creates awe and excitement for learners of all ages and with me it is never boring or ordinary.
