Kirk Schumann, 51, unexpectedly passed away sometime during the night after cooking a special Christmas dinner for his family – wife Tanya, son Matthew (16), daughter Kaylie (13) and mother-in-law, Linda Lescoe. They all traveled together from Southern California to Tahoe City to experience a white Christmas and lift their spirits from losing their grandmother, Anna Jane Lescoe, earlier in the year. During that time, Lake Tahoe shattered a 50-year December snowfall record with more than 16 feet of snow, blocking major roads and keeping the family stranded in their vacation rental for multiple days dealing with their shock and pain.
Because of that same snowstorm, the Medical Examiner was delayed, so Kirk remained in Tahoe for 10 days, with a preliminary autopsy of heart disease and most likely suffered a heart attack Christmas night.
Kirk was a family man, married to Tanya 18+ years, and both were active in baseball with son, Matthew and soccer with daughter, Kaylie. Kirk was on the Little League Board and will be missed by both communities.
Kirk worked for almost 18 years at El Segundo Door Company, co-owned by his brother, Daryl Schumann and Jeff Bell. He made many friends with co-workers and customers alike.
Cremation, transport from Tahoe, and memorial service costs for Kirk are just the beginning of the financial hardship Tanya will now face as a single mom/single income family with two children to support. With a limited savings, no Life Insurance, and a mortgage, please find it in your heart to help the family in any capacity, as they will need your support now and in the years ahead.
