The Scatterer is an exciting upcoming surrealist drama set to hit the international festival circuit in 2024.

The short film follows– Professional ash scatterer Arthur as he takes a job from a mysterious figure in the Australian outback, memories blur with the present as Arthur seeks answers for the unanswerable.

An exciting crew of present and emerging filmmakers are binding together to make this film a reality. In order to carry the project through to delivery and share with our desired audience – we’re hoping to secure some additional funding.

About the Project

Synopsis

Professional ash scatterer and part time scumbag, Arthur leads a solitary life. promising a peaceful farewell in an exotic location, Arthur's ash scattering business is an easy way to make a quick buck; the dead don't talk back. However, a chance encounter in the outback leads Arthur to a client like no other. As Arthur journeys into the heart of the desert with a mysterious figure, his memories blur into the present, his client seems to know more then they let on. As tensions rise between the two, Arthur is forced to confront his own mortality.

Director’s Statement

“For me, The Scatterer is very much an exploration of my own fear and morbid curiosity of mortality. While I didn’t consider it at the time, I wrote The Scatterer as my grandfather was passing, and retrospectively this was a huge influence. Arthur’s journey, coming to terms with the unavoidable uncertainty of death, is reflective of my own.

We are increasingly shielded from the later stages of life, with aged care and hospitals shrouding death in secrecy. I was fascinated as to how growing up surrounded by death would affect someone’s views on mortality. There’s a strange beauty about death, an existence in the unknown, almost mystical, I want that to come across in this film” - Felix Lovell
