I'm Lisa Coca, a friend of Layne and Ayla Sanders. Layne and my uncle, Tony Coca, are very good friends. Layne and Ayla have three teenagers. This is a close, loving family who care about each other and spend a lot of time together. Generally, Layne works, and Ayla is a stay-at-home mom who spends much of her time caring for her family and tending to their home.
Two weeks ago, Ayla began experiencing asthma. She was rushed to the hospital; however, unfortunately, they were unable to get her airways opened and her breathing normalized when she reached the hospital. It was necessary to intubate her, which required her to be placed in a drug-induced coma. Ayla was moved to a hospital in Medford last week where they had a better ability to treat her. Ayla has continued to have difficulty breathing and remains in the ICU on a respirator. This has been very scary for Layne and the children. Layne has been managing the teens while visiting Ayla and dealing with the gravity of the situation. He has not been able to spend much time earning money. The monthly bills continue to come in, and he is now also worried about how he will be able to pay them.
Further, when a person is suffering from this severity of breathing issues, before they can return home, the entire home has to be deep cleaned to remove any allergens. The donations will be used to purchase medical supplies needed so she can be cared for at home, pay the family's monthly expenses, as well as any medical bills, and to cover the cost of carpet shampooers and anti-dust products. This will enable the family to focus on what needs to be done before Ayla can return home without the added stress of huge financial worries.
