The Sad, Scared, and Lonely-A film by Tyler Woolard

Hey there! I'm Tyler Woolard, an aspiring filmmaker from Antioch, IL. My love of watching movies as a child slowly blossomed into a passion for telling those same visual stories as an adult. For years ideas have been germinating and forming into scripts that I would love to share with the world. Some of these stories require resources, industry connections, and money that I hope to one day have. I can't just jump right in filming the next Tarzan or adding to Pokemon's live action canon. I need a starting point. Before Christopher Nolan got the nod for his Batman trilogy, there was his shoestring budget feature Following. Before Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs, there was his true debut feature My Best Friend's Birthday. Even the GOAT, Stanley Kubrick(I know, debatable) started his monstrous career off with his debut feature Fear and Desire. Am I suggesting I'm in the same company as some of the greats I just mentioned? No. Do I hope The Sad, Scared, and Lonely is my first step in that direction? Yes. And like all of the greats, I need help taking this first step. That's where you all can hopefully come in to save the day and help me give my life the meaning I seek through storytelling.

OK, but what's the movie about?

Every screenwriting instructor, filmmaker, and creative alike all give the same advice on starting out. Write what you know, write what you know, write what you know. Write what you know and connect or translate it to the universal. Nothing I know better than my own story. The story of an aspiring filmmaker avoiding reality to toy with his imagination. In the process of trying to mine his mind for ideas, his reality becomes stagnant and fruitless. While his siblings, friends and life itself pass him by, he's left in his mother's basement hanging onto the only thing keeping him alive, a fading belief he can one day make something of himself. Will he get on with his life and rejoin the rest of society? Or is this isolation and obsessive rumination the grave he's digging for himself?

My story speaks to the worsening loneliness epidemic. It speaks to the growing number of adults staying at home with their parents well into adulthood, unable to find meaning. It speaks to those struggling with mental health issues that result in, and compound exponentially from, a state of isolation and hopelessness.

A lot of these same themes will be further explored in a hopeful second feature with the working title of When Stars Align. A character study of a school shooter. The exposure from a well-funded and effectively crafted first feature will surely make it easier to get funding and resources for a larger scaled, more expensive narrative. So, your help getting The Sad, Scared, and Lonely made could be everything that I need to start the rest of my career off.
