The Run for Kelly 180miles

Donation protected
Hi my name is Michael Pendry and the lady in this picture is my amazing, brave, strong and beautiful wife Kelly Pendry.
In September 2021, we were given the devastating news that Kelly had been diagnosed with a rare cancer; a uterine leimyosarcoma. Kelly was awaiting a hysterectomy following a diagnosis of benign fibroids. Despite her desperate pleas that she felt it was something more, it was months before it was investigated and at that point this horrid disease had already metastasised to her lungs, meaning that Kellys diagnosis was stage IV and deemed incurable. She was given six months to live. Kelly likes to defy anyone who tells her that she can’t do something and is currently proving doctors wrong. Just from our research, America seems light years ahead of the U.K. in terms of research, trials and multiple surgeries as a method of prolonged survival. In the UK’s NHS system, stage four patients don’t seem to be given the chance to survive - almost immediately going into ‘palliative care’ our hope is to raise funds to be able to pay privately, access treatments that are not available on the NHS or even look to get Kelly to America where treatment could potentially be curative or at least extend her time with us. Whatever we don’t use for treatments will be donated to a very worthwhile cause to help fund research into this type of cancer and aim to give women like Kelly a voice earlier on, so as no other family has to endure what so on October 12th 2022 I will be running from where we live in Ewloe (North Wales) to where we met in Hanham, Bristol. The run is approximately 180 miles with 29,800 feet of elevation and I will be doing it in 4 days, arriving in Bristol on the Saturday night.
Kelly is my one and she always has been and there is nothing I wouldn’t do for her, we have 2 amazing children Sammy 10 and Isla 8 and they need their mum to continue creating amazing memories and giving them the life Kelly so desperately wants them to have, and if I’m being honest for me too, I need her.
This is a real challenge and not something I have ever done before, my longest run to date (27th June 2022) is 20 miles is I have a lot of training to do.
If by some amazing miracle we don’t need to get her to the states for treatment because it’s worked over here then we will either find a charity to donate the funds (cancer related) or if we manage to raise enough then we will use the funds to create our own charity, helping women who are dealing with cancer on their own, we will give them as much information as they need to stand up for themselves when they are told it's all 'normal'  and we hope to be able to have a fund for those who cannot afford a second private opinion.
I will keep this page updated with progress and training, I am blessed to be surrounded by those who want to help me and want Kelly in their lives as much as the rest of us.
