From Roof Leak to Legal Battle: Our Family Needs Your Help

On November 3, 2022, during an HOA-mandated roof replacement, a nail pierced our hot water line, causing extensive water damage. Professional repair estimates ranged from $50,000-$80,000, but Liberty Mutual refused to pay anywhere near that amount. When we tried to come out of pocket to fix it ourselves, they made us stop and wait 6 months for an appraisal. By then, mold had developed, forcing us to divert our limited funds to remediation instead of repairs.

Two and a half years later, our home remains unlivable. We’ve moved EIGHT times, paying both mortgage and rent since 2022 until we basically ran out of money. Our son, just two when this began and now five, has changed schools three times and still asks where our home actually is. We’ve accumulated $462,000 in documented expenses.

Liberty Mutual continues delaying despite settlement terms very favorable to them. We owe over $15,000 in legal fees, and if they refuse the mediator’s settlement recommendation, we face an expensive trial we cannot afford.

The generosity of family and friends has helped with legal costs. Without continued support, we may lose our home entirely.
