The Roger Baker Ark Programme for the destitute of Eldoret.

The Roger Baker Ark is in memory of my Dad who had the biggest heart , I was blessed to inherit the same heart.

Hi my name is Nick Baker. I am no one special just a regular man led to live an unregular life by and in the love of Jesus.

On July 19th I will be doing a tandem sky dive from Beccles airfield, to begin the fund raising as part of a year long fundraiser to establish the Roger Baker Ark in the city of Eldoret, Kenya.

What is the need?
On a recent ministry trip to Eldoret I encountered the challenges that are faced by a small local ministry ,struggling to meet the need of the destitute children. Let me elaborate further and please bear in mind how fortunate and protected a child is in the western world. The third world is a different place.

The life of a child of the street , boy and girl is one of little hope, unhygienic conditions, health issues, lack of soap and water, toothpaste and brush, footwear, torn and filthy clothing, lice, abuse, grinding poverty and a constant temptation to commit crime to survive-- it is harsh.

Of a night the children gather in groups for their own safety. Stand , sit or sleep around a fire to keep warm. Fend off wild dogs scavenging food. Seeking safety from adult predators out to sensually abuse and harm. That's without the search for clean water and some food. Discarded vegetables from road side stalls are one source. Feeding off rubbish scraps like Ferral animals.

That's without the constant threat of beatings and dispersal by the police.

Nights of fear and days of desperation. BUT there is light amongst the darkness. Delivered by a few dedicated servants. Once a month children are invited to the church for a hearty meal, a day of safety, a chance to be kids and have a little fun. The dancing is amazing and wow they know the moves!

They are also encouraged to share their ambitions and hopes. Having witnessed this first hand I was truly humbled and it is this that inspired the need to begin the growth of what is needed.

Children in Eldoret find themselves destitute for many reasons-- Orphaned, abandoned, are runaways from abuse. The social problems are many.

The Roger Baker Ark is in response to the need. The first phase ----
Financial deposit on land that has
Mains water and electric supply and sewerage outlet.
Second phase - The supply of building materials to begin the process of building construction.
The building will encompass - dormitories for 50 children, 2 class rooms and a church.
Phase 3 - 24 hour served to meet the need of safety, hygiene, spiritual and physical growth.
Daily food availability and a monthly food programme to serve up to 300 children.

The vision is to see the Roger Baker Ark as a self sufficient vocational centre. Skills will be fostered , training and support given. Programmes such as work experience initiated.

Please sponsor as much as your heart leads too. It WILL make a difference. Thank you.
