Hi! My name is Sophia Gaemi and I am starting the journey of competing in the Miss California USA's pageant in December 2017.
At the end of last year my dad, Nasser, suggested that I apply. My first question was "Do I have to have a talent?", he said "No, thankfully!". After a few months of waiting and an interview I have been offered a spot on the Miss. California USA stage in Long Beach in December! Who would have thought they wanted a monkey on stage ;)
To be honest, I don't think of myself as your typical pageant girl. I am in workout clothes 90% of the time and am a self professed gym-junkie. I started as a Athletic Training major at Mesa State in Colorado, and have transitioned to a Kinesiology degree at Diablo Valley College with plans to transfer to San Francisco State in Fall 2017. As a full time student, I am also balancing working part-time at BYOG in Dublin, CA as custom garment customer support & sales. Additionally, I babysitting for several amazing families in Danville which fills up any free time that I'm not spending with my family and friends. I have two younger sisters and a very little fluffy dog.
Why am I doing this? I love a new challenge. Something new to push me beyond my comfort zone. It is scary but exciting! I've found when I do something new I learn so much. Usually much more than expect. In 2015 I competed in an NPC (National Physique Committee) competition in the bikini divison. That journey was such a learning experience I am looking forward to experiencing another new process.
As I learn more about the Miss USA program and meet prior pageant competitors I have been blown away by the honesty and sincerity of the ladies I have met thus far. They are so down to earth and, well, normal girls, like me! I'm realizing that my idea of a stereo-typical pageant girl is just that, a sterotype. I would be honored to have the opportunity to stand next to the lovely ladies I have met. To represent Danville and compete for the opportunity to represent the amazing state of California.
