The Rincon family

Hi, I’m Sophia Rincon, Tobias Rincon’s mama. My husband Gonzalo Rincon is the sole provider for our family. I quit my job in October of 2021 to stay home and take care of our medically complex son Tobias and our three beautiful girls. We’ve been barely making it with just Gonzalo’s income but we’ve made it work. As most of you know at 20 weeks pregnant with Tobias we found out that he had a birth defect called CDH. CDH is short for Congenital Diaphagmatic Hernia. In short Tobias was born without his diaphragm muscle. When we first found out about his birth defect he had a good out come but when he was born that quickly changed to him being a severe case. He had virtually no diaphragm muscle so, all of his organs (stomach, liver, intestines), infiltrated his chest cavity pushing his lungs to the right side of his body. His left lung didn’t have enough room to grow so it’s smaller than his right lung. We call it his lucky lung, just like Marlin calls Nemo’s smaller fin his lucky fin. Because of the CDH, Tobias is immunocompromised. Over the last month he has mostly been hospitalized and the girls have also been sick. Tobias has his G Tube revision surgery and had to be hospitalized due to his original G Tube site opening. He was home for 4 days and ended up back in the hospital because he caught RSV. He was put on life support in the first 24 hours because he couldn’t breathe on his own. Since I can’t be in two places at once, Zalo has had to take some time off of work or leave work early some days, unfortunately. Because of that we’ve lost money. They extubated Tobias yesterday (10/12/22), unfortunately he’s starting to struggle to breathe so they are talking about putting him back on life support or possibly even putting a trach in. We would be using the money we receive for gas, bills, and other things we may need household wise. We would appreciate the help so much. We wouldn’t ask if we weren’t really struggling.
