on the 13th July 2025, after what seemed like a dream hack, a split second changed my life. The horse I was riding reared and lost balance, this meant he fell on top of me and I hit my head very very hard. This resulted in multiple skull fractures, two brain bleeds and a subdural haematoma. I was officially diagnosed with a TBI (traumatic brain injury).

Luckily I was with one of my oldest and closest friends at the time and she wasted no time ringing the emergency services and “demanding” an air ambulance… they quickly sent out an ambulance response vehicle, whom quickly agreed the situation was very serious and within 15 minutes an air ambulance had arrived.

Once the air ambulance arrived, they quickly sprung into action and for my own safety and to help my brain they put me in an induced coma at the roadside. No doubt this action, my friends quick response and my stubbornness to give up, saved my life. Most people do not survive the injury I had and even though I have an incredibly long road to recovery there is light and the end of the tunnel and I started to improved quickly. Although I was conscious for a couple of weeks, I don’t remember any of it and I still struggle with my memory now. They call it post traumatic amnesia.

six weeks later I was discharged from hospital and allowed to continue my recovery at home. I cannot work, ride or drive for a minimum of 6 months. This was/is incredibly frustrating but very much necessary.

I want to take this time and platform to thank my friend and the air ambulance for their help in saving my life. Words could never express my gratitude towards them.

And to everyone that was involved in helping take care of my horses throughout the day and making sure they were all cared for. Thank you. It means so much that the community came together so my family could be by my side and it was one less thing I had to worry about.

Please note, obviously I was wearing a helmet and this also saved my life. Please, for anyone riding, helmet safety is so important and should never be taken for granted.
