The return to tierra of Teresa Aceves-Martinez

Hola querides. My name is Jessi Realz and I’m starting this GoFundMe on behalf of Marilet Martinez and her sister Roxie to raise funds for the sudden passing of Marilet’s and Roxie’s mother, Teresa Aceves-Martinez.

For those of you who may not know me, Marilet and I have been kindred souls since we met in the Chicago comedy scene in 2017. Since then, we have been the co-founders of Ratas de Dos Patas and Tus Tías- comedic collectives that have brought comedy, cultura, & corazón productions across the nation. I consider Marilet a soulmate. To know Marilet is to know amor puro. Throughout our years as homies, I’ve gotten to meet Marilet’s family and see first-hand the love, respect, and admiration they have for one another. It’s truly magical to be in the presence of Marilet and her family because they fill spaces and time with so much joy and laughter.

In the artistic community throughout the world (and I do mean world because Marilet has been all over the mundo), Marilet is beloved, revered, admired, and held in the highest of praises by their colleagues, students, and friends. Marilet has given me their blessing to move forward with this GoFundMe. As all of you can imagine, this is an incredibly difficult time for Marilet, Roxie, and their entire family.

I ask that we that we keep that sense of community that we know so well going for Marilet and Roxie in this time of processing, grieving, and need. Below is the statement posted by Marilet, Roxie, and Aceves family on the passing of Teresa Aceves-Martinez:

It is with very heavy hearts we announce that our mom, daughter, partner, sister, grandmother, tia, and undeniable force that was Teresa Aceves-Martinez passed away suddenly on July 16, 2023. We are still processing the shock of this unexpected loss and appreciate all who have reached out to our family with condolences and support. We appreciate your love of our mom and your care for us.

Out of respect for our mother's wishes, there will be no viewing or chapel services. Tere will make her return to tierra soon. There will be a celebration of her life at a date to follow. Please be patient with us as we navigate this difficult time and how to best honor our beloved Pecosa.
