The Rep Effect!

She says at the start of almost every Body Pump class, “I wouldn’t do this on my own,” to all of her eager participants ready to burn off the stress of the day with our YMCA family. As we start lifting weights, she  reminds us of proper form while also inquiring who’s seen a good movie lately.  She has a way of kicking your tail while creating casual conservations and of course always smiling. She is the reason many of us rush to class from work to spend time making sure we invest in our health, sharing the common goal of pushing ourselves out of our own boundaries.

As you would say Barb, you don’t have to do this alone. You and Robert have a team of people that are here to lift the weights off your shoulders so we carry it as a team.

To paint the picture of this incredibly strong family, Robert and Barb take care of their sweet 32-year-old daughter, Jackie, who was diagnosed with autism in high school. Although highly functional, the cost of ongoing care is a challenge.

Coupled with this, Robert last year was electrocuted when lightning struck their house, which caused increased medical bills and most recently a stay in the hospital due to a bacterial infection, osteomyelitis, which required surgery and IV therapy to help him recover. The exposure to this and stress has caused their daughter, Jackie, to suffer a major regression that has required Barb to leave her nursing job to care for her 24/7. With medical expenses that exceed $20,000 every year, they’ve managed to make it work over the years but with Barb leaving her job to care for her Jackie, it has set them back tremendously.

An inspiration to thousands for almost four decades through different programs she has taught at the Y, Barb has served even more as a nurse. As a natural care giver, she tends to those needs around her daily but now it is our turn to care for her and her family to lessen the load and help lift them up through these challenging times.

Friends, family, colleagues and community, please keep Barb's family in your prayers and find a way to contribute to a loving family who has hit hard times.  They give so much to so many, so if so many give even a little, it can truly mean so much ❤️
