The relapse of Hendrix's leukemia

Donation protected
My name is Amanda Dean, and I am asking for you to help this family out as they start their cancer journey all over again.
Jenna and Brian are the proud parents of a lovely boy named Hendrix who was originally diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) on February 23, 2023, and he began his journey with chemotherapy.

On November 14th, 2023, for the first time, Hendrix then went into maintenance (maintenance therapy drug is usually given in a low dose over a long period of time. This helps to keep the person in remission and prevent relapse. Because the drug is given at a low dose, there tends to be fewer side effects and the person is able to have a better quality of life).

On November 28th 2023, their lives quickly changed once again when Hendrix went into DKA, Diabetic Ketoacidosis, which is a life-threatening condition. DKA develops when your body doesn’t have enough insulin to allow blood sugar into your cells for use as energy. Instead, your liver breaks down fat for fuel, a process that produces acids called ketones. When too many ketones are produced too fast, they can build up to dangerous levels in your body. Hendrix was only breathing at 50% and was transported by ambulance to the icu at sick kids, and diagnosed with type one diabetes.

On Tuesday January 7th 2025, Jenna and Brian took Hendrix to sick kids for what they thought was going to be their 6th round of maintenance when their whole world was turned upside down. Hendrix’s blood work showed that the cancer had returned! He has had an early relapse and it hasn’t even been 2
years since his first diagnosis.

Wednesday January 8th 2025, Hendrix had a bone marrow aspiration to confirm that the cancer is in fact back. He has had an early relapse, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia B Cell and he will be re-admitted to Sick Kids hospital for inpatient, starting re-induction on Monday January 13, 2025. He will be an inpatient for about 30 days, and there are talks of a bone marrow transplant for Hendrix.

Jenna and Brian have a long road ahead of them, they are both off work again, and have been put on a waitlist for the Ronald McDonald House. They will be staying in a condo as of Monday, and are not able to use public transit as Hendrix is immunocompromised.

I am asking anyone who would like to help this family to please donate, share this page, and keep them in your thoughts and prayers. This brave, strong little fighter needs our help to fight his toughest fight!
