Birthing a genre-defying new musical with your help!
In 2018, Christine Jugueta created her first solo play with music and presented it at the Statera Foundation National Conference.
The play went back into incubation and is now emerging as a full theatrical piece called THE RED THREAD: MOTHER SONG.
This timely work will explore grief, voice and legacy, and will feature genre-defying original music.
Actor/Singer/Composer/Writer Christine Jugueta and Sound Designer/Engineer Sharath Patel have teamed up to create this sonic world and they will be joined by long-time Broadway and New York artists to bring this piece to life.
We’re seeking seed producers - early believers who will help plant this work in fertile soil so that it has a chance to take root, find a home, and grow a life of its own. Here's a breakdown:
- 3 professionally produced songs for pitch presentation and single release (including sound design, co-production/co-arranging, mixing, mastering, music transcription, studio time) = $4,000 (discounted, these costs are easily in the $9k range)
- Travel/lodging/per diem for in-person recording sessions and readings = $1,000
- 1 private reading with professional Houston-based actors for the playwright to review the material before a more formal reading (7 actors, 1 director, 1 sound designer, 1 stage manager) = $1,000
- 1 Zoom reading with professional actors (7 actors, 1 director, 1 sound designer, 1 stage manager) = $2,000 (all contributors will be invited to this reading which will feature Broadway and New York-based artists)

There has never been a single Filipino-heritage writer and composer who has taken a new musical through the American Regional/New York theatre new play development circuit. Christine intends to be the first.
In December, Christine will lead a sacred community offering at Asia Society-Texas Center sponsored by the Houston Arts Alliance — a celebration of the work and an acknowledgment of the historical influences that have informed the journey. We look forward to celebrating with you in-person or via live stream!
