The Rebuilding of Masjid Omar Ibn Khattab-Baidoa, Somalia

Donation protected
In 2002, my beloved grandmother Fatima (may Allah have mercy on her) built the Omar ibn Khattab Mosque in the Isha neighborhood of Baidoa, Somalia—a community that had no mosque or place for congregational worship at the time. Her vision and sacrifice gave birth to a sanctuary that became the spiritual heart of the area, welcoming up to 500 worshippers at a time.

After her passing in 2013, my father, Dr. Aweys Abdi Omar, took on the responsibility of maintaining the mosque. In 2020, he personally funded a major renovation costing over AUD $50,000 to ensure it remained a safe and welcoming place for the community.

Sadly, in April 2025, the mosque was devastated by heavy rains and flooding. The structure suffered extensive damage and is no longer safe to use. The community has been left without their only place of worship.

We are now raising $60,000 to rebuild the Omar ibn Khattab Mosque.

This is a chance to not only revive a vital community center, but to earn immense reward. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, “Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build for him a house in Paradise.”— Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith 450.

Donate today and earn ongoing reward (sadaqah jariyah). No amount is too small—every dollar brings us closer to restoring this house of Allah.
