The Quest to Help Crest

Donation protected
Hello, My name is Brandy. I have been an avid equestrian for over 30 years. I have owned, shown, ridden, and trained numerous horses in my life, but none touched my heart quite like Crest.
Crest came into my life, when my friend Tyler was looking for her life long "heart' horse. We met Crest, and felt an instant connection. His calm, sweet, puppy dog personality wins over every person he comes into contact with. He is an amazing teacher, with patience of a saint. He allows our kiddos to climb on him, and love on him, and follows them around.  His gentle demeanor has been beneficial for children with disabilities, and he has helped teach young and new riders confidence.  He is loyal and loving, and always happy to see his friend and family.

On the morning of June 6th, Tyler received a phone call from our barn manager to let us know that Crest had been kicked in his back leg while outside with his pasture mates protecting his friends from a new horse that had arrived at the barn.  On arrival,  Crests condition  was less than favorable with a severely swollen hock, open wounds on the joint, drainage, wounds on his back, and unbearable pain.  He was unable to put weight on his limb. After radiographs were performed,  our vet expressed concern that possible joint trauma was plausible, and we were referred to NC State university.  We were prepared for the worst, but hoped for the best.  Initial diagnostics were performed, but a confirmed diagnosis was unable to be determined.  During a sedated procedure, the surgeon confirmed our worst fears. Unfortunately, the impact caused a rupture in his joint capsule, and his only chance at survival was to rush him to surgery. Tyler and I weighed our options and knowing his chance to pull through was favorable we opted to proceed with surgery immediately upon arrival.  Without surgery, his only option was humane euthanasia.  His procedure went smoothly, and after 30 liters of saline were flushed into his joint and the capsule repaired, he is recovering at the university. According to his surgeon, he has a minimum of 5-7 critical days of aggressive therapy before being allowed to discharge and return home. He has a long road to recovery, but he is in the best of hands. We knew he deserved this chance, and we are willing to give him all we have so he can continue to bless all the lives and hearts he has touched.  Our kids love him dearly, and we want them to be able to continue to love him as much we do.  We love you, sweet Crest, and want you better!

Unfortunately, his medical insurance does not cover this type of injury. The donations made for this fundraiser will go directly to help support his extended medical bills so he can return home. Please keep sweet Crest in your prayers, and help us get him home! #thequesttohelpcrest #savecrest #Crestswarriors #equinemedicine #NCstateequinehospital #equestrian #healing #OTTBlove
