The Pursuit of Hope : Helping a Homeless Boy & Blind Mom

Donation protected
JUST $5 FROM YOU CAN CHANGE THEIR LIVES!! If everyone who show'd up on this page donated as little as $5, we'd have this goal met within a week. I BELIEVE IN YOU!!!

Two years ago, I met a struggling mother and her young son living in a van in Southern California. It took no more than 5 minutes with the both of them to realize there was something truly special about these two, despite experiencing homelessness for over 5 years with plenty of disappointments along the way, James and Debby we're radiant, kind, and truly hopeful their situation would take a turn for the better so her dear son could live the life she wanted for him.

Right away, my wife and I decided we wanted to walk through this hardship with them, and only some weeks later we were sharing Holiday meals, celebrating birthdays and special moments, and working with every program we had access to try and get them into a solid environment.

From that day to today it's been nearly 19 months, and although I am so thankful for the sweet relationship and memories we've developed together, the road to finding help has been long, full of heartbreaking trials, and recently took a turn for the worst

Shortly after meeting them — the mother who was already facing immense hardship lost her eyesight completely due to glaucoma caused by an untreated head injury. Despite the diagnosis being confirmed by two doctors, their Social Security and disability claims have been denied. And just yesterday, the van they called home was taken away.

James and Debby have nowhere to stay, no income to bank on, no connected family, and no tangible way to work given the recent circumstances. And although we've tried speaking with 40+ non profits and programs in the last 2 years, most nonprofits can’t help this specific situation — disability services won’t take in children, and family shelters often can’t handle advanced medical needs.

We’re raising $50,000 to create a sustainable and stable future for this mother and her son, and this is how it's getting spent.

What the $50,000 Will Fund:

$28,000 – Housing (24-30 months):
Stable, safe rental housing near schools and youth support programs.

$6,000 – Tutoring & Academic Support:
Help the son catch up after years of disrupted education.

$5,000 – Therapy & Counseling:
Trauma-informed care for both mom and son to heal emotionally and mentally.

$4,000 – Food & Basic Essentials:
Groceries, hygiene items, clothing, school supplies, and other everyday needs.

$3,000 – Transportation:
Reliable rides to school, appointments, and support services.

$2,000 – Legal & SSI Advocacy:
Help reapplying for disability benefits and navigating public services.

$2,000 – Emergency Fund:
For unexpected medical bills, school expenses, or urgent needs.

TO ENSURE THIS MONEY WILL BE USED WISELY, I HAVE SET UP A TEAM OF MENTORS, HOMELESS AID PROFESSIONALS, AND THERAPISTS TO ENSURE THE CORRECT PATH IS TAKEN

Last night my friends and I from the local church put them up in a motel until we set up a immediate housing solution.

WHAT WE ARE WORKING ON

  • Hiring a legal team to fight for rightful disability and SSI
  • Continuing to find any non profits with actionable services
  • Looping in blindness professionals to adapt to new disabilities
  • Finding affordable housing and longterm income opportunities.
