Hi,
I'm Shaun Wallace the Curator of an exhibition that invokes the joy, celebration, and community resilience of clubbing culture.
Reunion 79-21 : Revisiting Black Queer
London Clubland, celebrates the evolutionary era between 1979 and 2021, when music and dance created community amid an all too often hostile world. These spaces became vital places of self-expression, healing, and freedom, where music turned exclusion into belonging.
We now want to commemorate the launch of the exhibition with a publication.
Your contribution will help to cover production costs of this very special photo book, which we will sell to take Reunion 79-21 to its next stage as an initiative and venture.
Featured Photographer.
Since the early 80’s, Dave Swindell’s, has been documenting London’s most influential club and rave scenes. As Time Out Clubs Editor from 1986 - 2009 he had exclusive access to nightlife and its pivotal shifts in youth culture, styles and attitudes.
Dave's archival photography invokes the early formation of blackqueer visibility in the UK; his intimate imagery during the timeline shining a light on a queer scene, within a queer scene.
Text
Author Shaun Wallace's incisive recounting of the timeline brings to life the stories of subjects behind the portraiture, and will provide a birds eye perspective on afro-diasporan critiques surrounding gender, race and sexuality in Black Queer UK communities.
