The Story
Eliza, an absent mother, steps back into her young daughter, Myra's life once she discovers that her mother, Lorrie, is raising the child to believe in fairy tales. The Princess and the Pea explores themes of protection, motherhood, and how our decisions affect our loved ones. In this story, the characters struggle with what is lesser of two evils: a painful lie or painful truth. The film both celebrates and exposes the dangers of living in a fairy tale.
The Princess and the Pea uncovers the role of imagination in our lives. This project is important to us because as artists this sense of imagination plays a vital role in helping us pursue what many would see as an impractical craft. Even without magic, life offers magical moments that we all experience.
Where does magic exist in your reality?

Director's Note:
Growing up, a lot of my personal development and confidence came from reading the work of fearless artists like Maya Angelou. While books, poems, and novels are internally vivacious experiences, for me, they do not hold the same impact as a film. Seeing a tangible story on the screen is like implanting a memory. Visual storytelling allows to make your imagination a reality. A film itself is real; maybe the story isn’t but for me, it is living and breathing and has the power to affect the world.
Media often creates stereotypes, but considerate media actually does just the opposite. In my film, people of color will portray roles in which humanity is central, as we are often misrepresented and limited with the character roles we are provided in the industry. Through the film, I aspire to create an understanding about respecting different points of view. When we understand each other, we are able to be better, grow, and thrive on the rich education we can share with one another.
