This past November, Michael Prince was diagnosed with lung cancer. Michael, or Mike, as most of you know him – has just celebrated his 50th birthday.
While the news was tremendously difficult to process, Mike and his incredible wife Margaret knew they didn’t have a moment to spare. They immediately got Mike started on a physically challenging regiment of chemotherapy and radiation treatments that will continue through the next several months. Mike is as strong and positive as ever, especially with his partner by his side.
Mike and Margaret married in 1998. They are lifelong residents of Lake Ronkonkoma where they’ve thrived, building a beautiful family together. As you can imagine, breaking the news to their four young children was by far the most daunting piece of all of this. Lauren (19), Allie (16), Elaina (14), and Mikey (12) wouldn’t hesitate to tell you they have the best dad in the entire world. After losing his own father at the young age of five years old, Mike has always dedicated himself to his family. Anyone who knows him, knows he’d do anything for his children.
Mike is a hard-working, easy-going person who always has a smile on his face. The family is very private and until now, have been very discreet with the details surrounding his diagnosis and treatment. This is the hardest situation they have ever faced together. As a self-employed contractor, Mike is not currently able to work and support the family in the way he is accustom to. On good days, Mike still takes on a job or two, but ultimately without his full-time income the family is struggling financially.
The added stress of worrying about payments for multiple treatments, hospital visits, and the day to day expenses has been a bit overwhelming. Mike’s family wants him to concentrate more on healing than the monetary responsibilities he is so used to providing for. Michael is one of the strongest and kindest people you’ll ever meet.
