Hi! My name is Poppy and I was born on March 2nd, 2019 to my parents Megan and Michael. My original birthday was suppose to be May 10th but I had other plans in mind and came early... 10 weeks early. My mom started having some abdominal pain the morning of March 2nd and she called my aunt who is an ER nurse to come over. My aunt got my mom into her car, recognizing that something was wrong and started driving to Sharp Mary Birch which is where my mom was suppose to deliver me due to her health insurance. My moms medical condition started to deteriorated rapidly so my aunt decided to go the nearest hospital to get my mom and I the help that we needed. When my mom arrived to the labor and delivery unit both her and I were not doing well at all. My mom had a very low blood pressure and she was intermittently unconscious and I had a very low heart rate due to my mom's condition. After rapid treatment and assessment my mom was diagnosed with a placental abruption. So my mom was bleeding a lot internally and my lifeline (the placenta) was breaking away from my mom's uterus so I wasn't getting the blood and oxygen I needed to survive. It was at that point that the amazing doctors and nurses performed an emergency c-section on my mom so that we could both hopefully live. And thank God we DID!!! But my lungs weren't ready to breathe on their own so I was intubated and transferred to a higher level NICU down at Rady's in San Diego. My mom only got to see me once, right before they transferred me to Rady's which was really hard for both me and my mom. During the days that followed my mom was hospitalized for multiple days due to a difficult recovery and I fought real hard in the NICU to survive with my daddy by my side. After my mom was released from the hospital we were reunited and she has been by my side every day ever since. 4 weeks later I am still in the NICU and not sure when I'm going to get to go home but I'm doing my best to grow and work on my breathing and trying to get stronger.
My parents are starting this go fund me account because of financial difficulties due to growing hospital bills that have accrued due to me and my mom's medical care that we needed to survive. My parents set a goal for their go fund me at a $1 and here's why. Obviously their medical bills are thousands of dollars at this time and the bills continue to grow, but my parents take the position that anyone who is generous enough to donate anything to help our family is beyond kind and your gift is appreciated more than you know. My family and I thank you in advance for anything that you can give and I look forward to the day I am finally strong enough and healthy enough to get to go home with my mom and dad.
