Hi Friends.
On the evening of July 10, 2018, Terri Malek’s parents rushed her to Texoma Medical Center in Denison, TX due to excruciating abdominal and chest pains that had spontaneously arisen earlier in the afternoon.  Multiple tests including electrocardiograms, echocardiograms, CAT scans, multiple x-rays, days of nasogastric intubation, and round-the-clock lab work finally resulted in a diagnosis of partial obstructions in the digestive system.  Adhesions from a prior intestinal resection – compounded by a complete spine/back reconstruction, endometriosis surgery, and a hysterectomy – had become inflamed resulting in her digestive system slowly shutting down.  The initial prognosis included the likelihood of surgery, but with a fever and the looming threat of sepsis, the medical team opted to give her a few days to stabilize.  Terri rallied while sedated on the nasogastric intubation and by Sunday the 15th, she turned a corner.  Late Sunday, the surgeon acknowledged that he could indeed remove the adhesions, but it would likely result in a highly undesirable quality of life for her.  Terri is 47 years old, an avid outdoor enthusiast and a holistic healing teacher and mentor.  After careful consideration of the information presented, she and her doctor agreed that letting her body heal slowly - with some physical modifications - was in her best interest.  Thankfully, she was released to her home on July 16, with directions including a strict nutritional diet and very limited activity at least until the swelling and pain relents.

Terri & her husband, Tim, have both been coping with chronic autoimmune disorders for several years. Tim is a cancer survivor, but the disease resulted in the diagnosis of insulin-dependent diabetes. The two work together as a team in their shared passion of helping others thru their business at Epiphysis Holistic Healing & Educational Center in downtown Denison.  Terri works independently with her clientele at Epiphysis, but she will not be able to return to work in the near future.  Due to her previous diagnoses and a long list of pre-existing exclusions, health insurance was not in place at this time.

Essentially, the Malek household relies on a shared-single income.  Many of us want to help in some way and this fundraiser is intended to help Terri & Tim navigate these tumultuous waters without further undue stress.  If you have met Terri, you know first-hand how much of herself she freely gives to others.  The center provides a space for yoga, meditation, Reiki and more, but it is also a refuge for all of us in our journeys of self-expansion, awareness, and healing.  Many of you are aware of the depth and breadth of this endeavor.  But for now, the roles have reversed. We are now in a position to help our sister and brother.

If you feel called to help these caring, supportive, gracious people, any gift is deeply appreciated.  Thank you in advance for your kind thoughts, prayers, and financial generosity.
