The Powderham 700 Trees Fund

Donation protected
In August 2025, the Courtenay family marks a rare milestone: 700 years at Powderham. The August 1325 marriage of Hugh de Courtenay to Margaret de Bohun brought the Manor of Powderham to the family, decades before the building of the Castle; and so we are celebrating our ancient relationship with Powderham's unique waterside landscape and its community. To honour this legacy and invest in the future, we are launching an ambitious multi-year project – the planting of 700 new trees across Powderham's heritage landscape.
These trees be rooted in the historic park and gardens, enriching the designed landscape for generations to come and continuing the family's arboricultural tradition. Each tree will be confirmation of our commitment to biodiversity and environmental resilience and will support our long-term stewardship of this small corner of Devon that we and our ancient trees call 'home'.
With your support, this initiative will help restore native habitats, capture carbon, support wildlife, and celebrate the enduring connection between people, place, and planet. Whether you are a friend of Powderham, a lover of nature, or someone who believes in the power of trees to shape a better future – we invite you to be part of this legacy as we plant that future together.
