Hi, my name is Magdalena Battles. I am the sister of Rachel Pierce. Rachel, her husband Matthew Pierce, and their 4 kids lived on Sanibel Island which was hit hard by Hurricane Ian. They are looking at total loss of the contents inside the building where they lived and had Rachel’s art gallery. The water came in from the flood surge and a tree fell on the roof. They have no power there to fix things and remediate problems- nor are they allowed to even be on the island right know. The mold is taking over, in addition to the flooding throughout the gallery. They are looking at starting over. Their commercial building, that they lived above, will need to be majority gutted and redone. The contents are a loss. They had commercial insurance, and they unfortunately learned this does not cover their personal property upstairs. They obviously won’t have the income from the gallery, nor the income from the renter they had from them business in the other half of their building.
They are moving to our place in Southlake, TX for a while, so the kids have stability while they plan how to rebuild and start over. Matthew and Rachel will likely need to make multiple flights to go back and forth as they work on setting up their life again, and to see their kids in Texas as well if they have to return to FL for a stint of time to work on things. Flights from DFW ago RSW are never cheap, and it is going to be another burden for them. People have asked to send funds to help them in any way, which is why this is being set up. Funds will also be used to buy personal and household items that they need, since they lost it all. The help is greatly appreciated.
They are in for a long recovery process, as they lost the business and their home at the same time. Thank you for your thoughts, prayers, and any help provided!
