The Peterson Family Fundraiser

Ronan remains in the NICU, but Sonny has been released and is now staying with Amber in the Ronald McDonald House. Amber brings Sonny back to the NICU and finds joy in having her twins together in the same room. Meanwhile, Keefe is back home, working in Atkinson, and travels back and forth to Iowa City with their two-year-old daughter to spend time together as a family.

Last fall, Keefe and Amber Peterson were thrilled to find out that they were expecting twins. At their 20 week ultrasound, they found out that one of their twins, Ronan, had only one artery in his umbilical cord instead of two causing an Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) leading to slow growth and development. Specialist doctors in Iowa City began using words such as "not-viable", "termination", "stillbirth", and "triploidy" as they painted a very bleak outlook for Ronan's life.

Keefe and Amber chose to pray, to trust the Lord, and to give both of their boys a chance at life. By God's grace, the twins were able to make it all the way until 29 weeks before needing to be delivered by c-section on February 6th at the University of Iowa Hospital. Sonny Lee was born weighing 3lbs 3oz, and Ronan Hayes was 1lb 2oz. Although they have had many health challenges due to being born so prematurely, these two tiny miracles have amazed their doctors as they have overcome many odds.

It has been a trying time for Keefe, Amber, and their 2-yr-old daughter, Ezra, because their family is currently forced apart. Keefe has primarily remained back home to work while Amber has stayed in Iowa City with the twins. While Sonny is getting close to being released from NICU, Ronan has a longer NICU stay ahead of him and is in need of multiple surgeries.
