The Period Initiative
Donation protected
Hi, our names are Luisa Brooke and Deeya Yadapadithaya and we are seniors at Medfield High School participating in the Senior Project program. We decided to start the Period Initiative at our school where we provide organic menstrual products in all the girls and gender neutral bathrooms in order to allow people who get their periods to feel more comfortable while at school. We’ve realized both the financial burden and stigmatized burden of having a menstrual cycle has obstructed valuable learning time, and our goal is to try and decrease this burden, however much we can.
We were inspired to do this after learning about the global issue of Period Poverty, where people who get periods do not have access to the necessary menstrual products due to the financial burden that they hold. One of our main objectives is to get organic period products into our school’s budget in order to ensure that in future years these supplies continue to be available to all, making sure that people who get their periods can focus on their education, not the unnecessary stress that periods can bring. Thanks to Dr. Marsden and the School Committee we were able to get the products into the budget! We are using Aunt Flow products since they are 100% organic pads and tampons because we want to ensure that what is being put into our bodies is safe. These products are also good for the environment as they reduce waste by 34% compared to other leading brands.
Now we are asking for your help to raise money for the Aunt Flow dispensers. The cost of the products for both the middle school and high school are in the budget, but there is not enough room for the dispensers. Please consider donating in order to make people who get their periods more comfortable at school, so they can focus on their education.
