The People of Laikipia West Need Your Help
Tax deductible
In 2021, a tragic resurgence of banditry and violence in Laikipia West and Baringo South deeply affected many of the communities surrounding us here at the Laikipia Nature Conservancy. Stemming from the collision of drought and political incitement in these under-resourced regions of Kenya, these communities need urgent support to rebuild their lives, keep their children in school, and weather the coming year.
Dozens of families from Ol Moran to Mukutani have lost livelihoods, homes, and even loved ones as villages have been raided and residents terrorised. Those who have been displaced are struggling to pay rent for temporary housing in nearby towns and provide for their families without access to their shambas. In some areas, families are sheltering in nearby schools and churches.
As the government works to contain the violence, we at the Gallmann Memorial Foundation who have been supporting these communities for over four decades, are working with local communities to provide relief in the form of food supplies, building materials, school fee bursaries, and basic necessities such as water and firewood.
Because our own resources have also been affected, we are asking for your generous support in this difficult season.
• US$10 can provide a sheet of mabati (tin roof) to rebuild a family’s home.
• US$30 can provide a mattress and blankets for a displaced family.
• US$50 can provide enough maize flour to feed a family for a month.
• US$100 can provide a family with secondary school fees for two terms.
• US$500 can purchase a 5,000 liters water tank and rain water harvesting equipment.
