During the last months of my grandpa as a cancer patient, his doctor rushed through the daily examinations despite my family’s begging eyes. On the other hand, my grandma remembered the nurse’s warm smiles after waking up from her trigeminal neuralgia surgery. The stark contrast prompted me to volunteer, since 2019, for The Patient Is U (TPIU), a young organization aiming to promote compassionate healthcare.
TPIU was founded by Dr. K.J. Lee, whose whole professional life has been driven by service. His deep faith and witness to the power of combining the science and art of medicine have potent influences on the healthcare industry. Each TPIU role model has a unique charm, yet they all taught me one thing in common - the joy of giving. When an essay prize winner thanked us for helping her pay for an end-of-life doula certificate program, I felt that my $500 donation to TPIU (a quarter of my savings) was worth it! Please check the TPIU website to learn what we do and how you can help! https://tpiu.org
Compassion heals a world plagued with wars, illnesses, and poverty. Thank you very much!
