The passing of Carol Lozano Mercado
Donation protected
My name is Chloe Mercado I am twenty years old.
On June 29, 2022, at 3:00 pm, my mother, Carol Lozano Mercado passed away from Stage 4 cancer at only 60 years old. I found out she had cancer on Saturday, June 25, 2022. I only had 4 days to say goodbye as she was in and out of consciousness. Most of those days were spent talking to social workers and doctors about my mom’s condition. They said she had days to live and they were correct. She was my only immediate family member since 7 years ago when my Dad passed away and I am an only child.
My mom was full of joy and laughter when with friends and family, the light in every room. She loved me so much. She called me her “Angel”. We were inseparable.
After my dad died, my mom and I went through extremely hard times, but she never stopped supporting and loving me. When she died she was still helping me pay rent and expenses since I was just adjusting to life as a young adult trying to live on my own.
I moved out 3 months ago on my own. I am not yet at a point where I can afford my own living expenses. In addition, I have no disposable income, or life insurance proceeds, for a funeral for my mom. She was too young to die. Because she was so young, I assumed she would be around for a long time , and we would have time to figure out how to pay for the expenses that would arise after she was gone. We didn’t get that chance.
I used to think I would never ask for money for this purpose. But, I am in a situation where I feel I have nothing to lose by setting aside my pride, and asking for genuine help. When I regain financial stability, I would like to continue attending college to pursue a career in education. I plan to make it my mission to help others in any situation.
Thank you in advance for your support and condolences during this difficult time.
Love,
Chloé
