Kayas Kids is the American/Canadian fundraising arm of the Paradise Orphanage in the city of Kaya, Burkina Faso, West Africa. In 2002, the Sawodogo family linked arms with the Makofsky family (my family!) to begin a cross-continental partnership based on faith, determination and a big vision for a dusty plot of land. Since it opened its doors to its first 48 children, the Paradise Orphanage has become a haven for hundreds of children to be cared for, educated and prepared for a meaningful and prosperous life. A high school has been built, a chess training program started (in collaboration with Chess In Slums Africa (@chessinslums), vocational training provided, a documentary has been made...and a dusty plot of land has become a blossoming oasis filled with love and laughter. The Sawodogo family has informed us that the old well no longer has water to meet the needs of the site.

They had an unsuccessful attempt at reaching water at 100 meters deep for a new well this week and lost about 2,000 USD.

They will keep digging and the cost is projected to be 3,000-5,000 USD. This is an immediate need and the proceeds will be sent directly to them. Any funds raised above the need for the well will stay with Kayas Kids to be sent as needed.
