The Pamela Nugent Memorial Fund

Dear Friends,

As you may have heard, the Nugent Family lost their dear loved one, Pamela, in a tragic accident during the recent flooding in New York's Hudson Valley. The toll this traumatic event has taken on her family, her fiance, and her friends is unimaginable. Pam was an extremely bright, smart, funny, kind and positive person with a generous heart who was ready to do anything she could for you. She grew up in Fort Montgomery, was involved with the community and her church, she was close to her tight-knit family, especially her sister Emily and her two young nephews; she worked hard at her job with an acclaimed engineering firm; and most of all, she had big plans for her future where her wedding with Rob was just the beginning.

I want to thank the news media for their heartfelt and respectful coverage to share her story. And I want to add a few details that will help fill in the blanks, and explain a little about why I am sharing this GoFundMe page.

**I am going to describe the scene after I arrived minutes after Pam was lost. Please read further with caution or skip the next paragraph**

My name is Ivey Jenkins-Long, I know Pam through working with her father, Ed Nugent, for the past two years as the Project Manager for his sustainable construction company Nugent CM LLC. Pam would volunteer her time and expertise as our Business Manager and Marketing Director. I was there during the storm while the search mission was being conducted by the police and rescue officials, and while I can't imagine what her father and her fiance witnessed, I did see the near-apocalyptic scene of their neighborhood washing away. The three of them were in Ed's house, the home Pam grew up in, which is set on a steep hill near a creek, when the flooding encircled the entire house and they watched the backyard, gazebo, and two-hundred-year-old retaining wall disappear and leave behind a cavernous hole. Then the street at the front of the house was washed away, the four-inch thick asphalt breaking off in seconds and becoming a cliff only fifty yards from the house. It looked as though the house was going to collapse next, which is what spurred the evacuation effort to higher ground across the street, which had become a river directly in front of the house. Ed's dog Minnie, the sweet-natured 150 pound Newfoundland who keeps us all company, was found by Pam's side, shaken up but still alive.

The Nugent Family has seen tremendous loss over the past two years. They continue to be strong, and they keep working to make the world a better place. Ed is an incredible home builder who paves the way for sustainability in construction and for younger builders like myself to learn how to build high-performance Passive Houses, with the environment and the community in mind. He shares everything he knows with incredible generosity. This is our chance to give back to him and his family at a time when they need it. Ed told me today he wants to have a memorial for Pam in the neighborhood. I want to help bring the neighborhood back to a place where it can be a beautiful backdrop for her memorial.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.
