ABOUT US
Hello! My name is Emi Martinez-Zalce, an independent Montreal director and founder of Something Great Films, a Canadian production company specializing in student-led films. Inspired by my love of comic books, we created The Outstanding Spider-Man, a feature-length fan film that brings a fresh, more grounded perspective to the classic hero, while honouring the spirit of the original comics. Our team believes that our unique perspective and extensive knowledge of Spider-Man's history can inject new life and depth into the beloved characters of Peter Parker's world. However, with great aspirations comes a great need for contribution! After months of filming and sharing our progress on TikTok and Instagram (@somethinggreatfilms), we’re now in the final stretch with only a few days of shooting left. Your support would help us finish production and stay on track for a fall release!
PROJECT STORY
The Outstanding Spider-Man is a street-level take on the iconic hero, following Peter Parker’s journey from high school outcast to masked vigilante after a bite from a genetically enhanced spider gives him extraordinary powers. As he struggles with bullies, personal loss, and the weight of his new abilities, Peter begins to escape into his secret identity. The film focuses on Peter’s personal life and relationships, exploring the people and moments that shape him into the hero we know and love.
BUDGET
So far, we’ve raised $3,500 in donations, which allowed us to film the entire first act and almost all of the second and third acts. With only a few shooting days left, we’re now raising $7,000 CAD to cover the remaining production and post-production costs.
On an independent film like The Outstanding Spider-Man, every dollar helps bring the world of the film to life. Donations go toward paying off production expenses, such as: Locations, costumes & props, equipment, VFX artists, and craft services. Your support helps us deliver a film that honours Spider-Man’s legacy while offering a fresh take on the story.
THE IMPACT
We’ve connected with Spider-Man fans by hosting two panels at Montreal Comic Con, where we shared our first teaser trailer and answered audience questions. We’ve also met supporters at New York Comic Con and hosted a digital panel at Toronto Fan Expo. Our hope is that this new take brings audiences the same sense of hope and joy that Spider-Man has always inspired.
What our film does for others:
- Student Involvement: Real high school students appear as extras in numerous scenes.
- Educational Opportunity: Our set helps aspiring filmmakers learn about the production process.
- Supporting Montreal Talent: We’ve collaborated with local cast and crew.
- Global Outreach: We share regular social media campaigns and behind-the-scenes content on our Instagram and TikTok.

STRETCH GOALS
Here’s what happens if we raise more than our goal of $7,000:
- Cast & Crew: Our entire team has volunteered their time. Additional funds would allow us to give back to the cast and crew who made the film possible
- Enhanced VFX: Additional resources will help us create smoother web-slinging action and more exciting superhero moments.
- Expanded Reach: A more polished film means more screenings, and opportunities to share Spider-Man’s story with fans.
