The Origin Project Community Benefit Organization Fund
The Origin Project Collaborative is a 21st century laboratory for consciousness, culture, and community. Our mission is: to engage all perspectives of humanity through the discovery, exploration, and integration of our shared human origins. We embark on this journey by examining the multiple lenses of art, language, philosophy, and science – and uncovering the areas where these disciplines intersect and overlap. We feel that a full appreciation of our past cultural achievements, coupled with honor and respect for the uniqueness and diversity of our human species, will give us the necessary tools to navigate the uncertainties of our emerging future.
Our ultimate aim is to build a community center that will be used to create, curate, and serve as a focal point for the exploration of consciousness, culture, and community. Our grand vision for this center incorporates three legs: education, embodiment, and service.
First, the center will be used to educate one another about our history both from a socio-cultural and an historical perspective. There is an adage that says, “we can only know where we are going when we know where we’ve come from.” Plumbing the depths of our history makes us aware of the worst of our past so that we don’t repeat those very human mistakes here in the present. Studying our history also honors and utilizes ways of knowing and being in the world that have been lost in our modern world. To that end we will bring in teachers, lecturers, and experts in various fields to offer the most comprehensive and well-rounded perspectives available.
Second, the center will be used as a laboratory to explore embodiment and to re-establish connections to ourselves, our communities, and to our planet. In our current world there is an ever-increasing emphasis on the mental world. Our digital technologies including social media, and other traditional media sources create a disembodiment that withers away our sense of community and togetherness. To combat this we will gather to create a community of thinkers and doers who literally embody what it means to be human. Through participation in cultural practices, conversations, and experiences, we will reawaken ancient customs, rekindle lost arts, and reinvigorate venerable traditions from around the world and ground them in the here and now.
Finally, as a compassionate collective we feel that it is our duty as human beings to come together to serve those that are less fortunate than ourselves. We will accomplish this through an integration of education, community outreach, and cultural exploration/appreciation. Our goal is to bring people together to help one another through the giving of their time and talents, and in some cases through the imparting of their unique cultural offerings and expressions. If we can create relationships based on mutual aid, reciprocity, and the transmission of cultural wisdom, then people feel less like charity cases and more like capable human beings. In this scenario everyone wins.
We are currently in the process of raising the funds necessary to incorporate and complete the filing of our 501c3 application. Becoming a certified community benefit organization (CBO) will provide the opportunity to flex our philanthropic muscles in service to the greatest human good. Not to mention, it will grant the necessary resources to build the community center we are envisioning in a way that will help the most people possible.
