The Organist is a short film written and directed by Jonny Mowat, going into production in March 2024 in Glasgow, Scotland.
Premise
At his father’s funeral, a young man wrestles with his impulses with the arrival of a last minute replacement organist.
Background
This film is based on my life. Just over 2 years ago, my dad died unexpectedly, and it’s reshaped me in a lot of ways. Before that, I was quite a happy, positive person who liked to laugh a lot and tried very hard to be funny. I still am that, but after dad, that part of my personality felt completely at odds with the situation I found myself in. It’s taken me some time to realise that laughter has a valuable place in the grieving process, and this film is inspired by a real event where I learned that lesson.
