In 2018 I finished college, and like a good little worker bee I got a job and moved into an apartment. I kept my head down and busted my hump just like I'd always been told I was supposed to. That would have continued if not for my dear vehicle Serenity failing to pass inspection back in March.
Serenity is a 2008 Honda Fit with 215,000 miles on it and a catalytic converter which won't pass inspection. It is also my only available means of transport to work (72 miles round trip, and no, there are no buses I can take) or anywhere else: I cannot leave this area at all, and even if I could it would be impossible without a vehicle. Finding all of the parts which would be necessary to make this vehicle drivable (catalytic converter, four new tires, and a few others) has proven an impossible task: Serenity needs to be replaced.
For $10,000 or less I hope to find a new-to-me vehicle with under 85,000 miles on it which doesn't inhale gas too dramatically. This is more important than ever because my landlord is actually in the process of evicting me, so I'm about to have no place to live AND no vehicle, and that makes everything a lot more difficult than it needs to be. Yes, I do need to figure out the housing situation (which is complicated, believe me), but I think that getting the vehicle situation worked out first would help me to deal with the other facets of our late capitalist h*llscape which are trying their best to crush me out of existence.
Why do you want to help me? The short answer is because I can help you. It's true: As long as you're asking for brainpower and not cash, I've got you covered. Innovations, explanations, a strange perspective? I can do all of those and more, and best of all it's fun for me. I love nothing more than nerding out over some random question you've got about that article you read in Discover six years ago and how it relates to your favorite episode of Star Trek. Feeling like you're being pulled to "do more", but you have no idea what the next step is? I'll get you clear of the quagmire of inaction and onto the path you want to be walking. I'm here for it, all you have to do is ask in good faith and listen.
