"The Ocean and Me" Ocean Education workbook

We are two marine biologists with a common passion for sharing knowledge and inspiring action in the next generation. With masters and doctorate degrees in Marine Biology and experience in early childhood education, we are working hard to create an interactive, illustrated Ocean Education workbook for grades 4-6. This book contains the basics of marine biology, ecology, oceanography, and global issues, as well as numerous hands-on activities, adventures, and quizzes for our readers to fully integrate what they have learned. Each lesson connects the various topics (from phytoplankton, to whales, to overfishing) to the bigger picture, and offers suggestions of what our readers can do in their every-day lives to help. We believe that building a deeper connection with the natural world is also necessary to build a more harmonious future for the human species as a part of the larger ecosystems of our planet. For this reason, we have partnered with three people from First Nations communities in vastly different areas of the world (the Canadian Arctic, Colombia, and New Zealand) to include stories of Ocean connection from the perspective of the first peoples and original protectors of our Earth, also within this book.

With many partners, including our illustrator, and editing and production costs, we are in need of funds to get this project completed so that we can begin sharing this book with the world. We are a start-up business with little capital, so we could use your help to get us off the ground! We have many more ideas that we want to put into action after we publish this book as well, so your help would go a long way towards allowing us to create more platforms with which to share our knowledge and passion with youth and families.
