The O'Leary Family

When I set up this go fund me for my friends and their twins I had no idea the road that was ahead of them.
So I'm updating the story because after the last few weeks so many things have come to light in this situation, it is no longer the situation it initially was.

Salem and Luci were born on October 22nd 2019 which turned this family of 3 to a family of 5! (Salem and Luci have a big sister Mavis) For the first month of their lives they were generally pretty happy and healthy until December 5th. Their parents noticed that Salem was not making noise when she cried so they called the pediatrician and they said to take her to children's hospital close to their home and after an evaluation they concluded that she needed to be hospitalized for what they thought was RSV and because of this they decided to admit Luci as well. Unfortunately they do not treat patients that little at that location so they had to take two separate ambulances to the main campus in Aurora. They were admitted to the NICU where Luci stayed for 3 days and Salem stayed for 7. They brought both girls home and they stayed home for 6 days (with lots of doctors vistis) and the pediatrician was still worried about Salem so she sent her back to 470 and Lucent for a chest xray. Unfortunately when we got to 470 and Lucent they concluded that she needed to be hospitalized again so that meant another ambulance ride to the main campus. Salem was again sent to the NICU and after some testing they found that her heart was enlarged and sent her to the CICU (cardiac intensive care unit). Two days later they had Luci evaluated and they concluded that her hear was enlarged as well so she also went to the CICU (in a less severe condition). After some additional testing they diagnosed both girls with dilated cardiomyopathy which was caused by a genetic mutation that both girls have which unfortunately means both girls need heart transplants. That being said they are in a weird stage of their lives where they are stable so they are not on the transplant list right now but doctors are predicting that they will need a transplant within the first year of their lives. It is possible that they will be able to be stable enough to come home for a while before this happens but they know for sure that their heart function is not strong enough to last them their whole lives. This is all the information we know as of right now.

Anything you can do to help this family is huge. It's going to be quite the wild ride for a while.
