If you do not know Beth O'Dell, I can say with a bit of confidence that she has touched your life in some way. Whether it is has been thru her dedicated volunteer work at Lake Travis Elementary or her work as PTO board member at Hudson Bend MS or experiencing her magic in helping to make Breakfast with Santa come alive every year.
Beth is always the first to offer if help of any kind is needed. No matter who it is. Beth is the type of soul who when she asks "How are you?", she genuinely wants to know.
Beth always has a smile on her face.
This past year, Beth's mom, Barbara had a debilitating stroke that left her unable to care for herself. Since, she has moved in with Beth and her family. As one can imagine, this can be a toll on any family. But, Beth, her husband John and her twin boys Trent and Grant are not just any family. They took this major life change in stride. Beth was now unable to work in order to care for her Mom full time. But this too was taken in stride and they made whatever adjustments they could. All the while Beth never complained and still had a smile on her face.
This past Monday, while doing a home inspection, John fell thru the attic and landed on the bottom floor. After his fall, he was unable to feel his legs. The fall created a lot of damage. He had fractured his vertebrae in two places. The fracture exploded outward and a piece of bone shredded the protection covering the nerves in his spinal column. The surgeon was able to bring it all back together and he has rods and screws in his spine to stabilize.
It is now a wait and see situation to see how the nerves will recover and how long his recovery will be. But, we do know John's recovery is going to be difficult.
Because John is a contract worker, he is not eligible for Workmans Comp. He is the bread winner for his family and now with this awful injury, this family is in a dire situation.
Because of the many unknowns as far as how long John will be unable to work, medical costs, etc, any help you are able to give to this family would be hugely appreciated.
