Hi, my name is Mahalia, and this fundraiser is for my best friend Ebony and her family (Luke, Kelly, Josh, Maddy, and Olivia) to help them recover from the flash flooding that occurred over New Year's Eve and Day.
On New Year's Day, the Northeast family woke up to their campsite in Numinbah partially submerged in flood waters. Maddy Northeast's tent was pushed 40m downstream in the rain, with Maddy still asleep inside. A tree fell and trapped her in her tent. Maddy began to suffocate but thankfully was rescued by neighbouring campers who cut her out with an axe.
In addition to the trauma of this terrifying experience, the Northeast family lost an enormous number of their possessions. This fundraiser is to help the family get back on their feet and replace some of their lost items.
Unfortunately, the Northeasts are no strangers to having belongings destroyed as they also had their Murwillumbah home flooded in the 2022 Feb/March floods.
The family has been going on camping trips for many years and has slowly built up an extensive set-up. They are now having to start their camping equipment collection from scratch, as well as having to replace all their personal belongings.
The items ruined in the flood include;
Christmas presents
3x tents and 1x swag
7x mattresses
5x sleeping bags
2x gazebos
1x fridge
3x eskies
1x camp trailer
10x camp chairs
3x tables
shower tent and shower heater
solar power system w/ 2 panels
battery for campsite power
numerous power tools
pickleball net and bats
double stretcher
all toiletries (make-up, skincare, etc)
Two weeks worth of clothes
5x pairs of shoes
jewellery
AirPods
multiple device chargers
camping kitchen items (i.e. utensils and fire tools)
2x duffle bags
4x bed linen sets
sony headphones
They are home and safe now, but the family is still in emergency mode and is reeling from the fact that they almost lost their daughter.
Donations of any amount are enormously appreciated.
