During Christmas break, while most of us were off of work and enjoying the time with family or spending it in leisure, a member of our team was spending it in his own personal hell, and is not yet out of the woods.
Matthew Nicholas, the Lead of our Offload Crew, was outside playing with his son when he noticed an odd discoloration in his son's skin. He asked him to come closer when he noticed that his eyes were discolored as well, and he promptly took him to the hospital. The first hospital they arrived at couldn't figure out what was causing liver failure despite a battery of tests and they transferred the 4 year old to a children's hospital for further examination. The same result. The family was then life-flighted to Dallas for a more specialized diagnostician for further testing to determine what was causing the liver failure. As they were in transport to Dallas, Matt received a phone call from a neighbor at the camp grounds that someone had run into the family travel trailer that everyone was living in, and it is likely totaled. The medical team is still in search of the cause, and are exploring all options as they await liver biopsy results.
Living and working on the road has it's difficulties, but the Nicholas Family has been committed to our team's success, and now they are in need of a hand. Our brother, provider and leader of his family, is doing his best to keep it together in such a paramount time. The feeling of hopelessness as a parent, for the wellbeing of their child, has no equal, and I hope that we can manage to take care of the details as he takes care of his family.
We are hoping to raise enough to cover living expenses and medical bills in this time of need. We don't yet know the extent of the medical procedures that will be necessary to bring him back around, so it's difficult to set a "goal" for funds raised, but this should be a good start on what could be a long road.
As details are made available, and with Matt's permission, I will update.
Thank you.
