The Next Step into the Magic: Transforming Our Sanctuary for the Horses Who Need Us Most

We’re raising £80,000 to improve drainage, create safe tracks, and transform how our horses live, move, and thrive all year round.

Right now, there are areas of our land we simply can’t use for much of the year.

Too wet.
Too uneven.
Too muddy.

And for an ageing herd and horses coming into our care with injuries, disabilities, or additional needs that’s no longer good enough.

Quick project overview

We are creating a fully connected, safe, and usable space that works with the land, and for the horses, all year round.

This includes:

* A new drainage system to replace old, failing infrastructure

* A continuous all-weather track to keep horses moving in winter

* Curved steps to support strength, balance, and safe movement

* Flexible spaces for small groups or individual care

* An additional sheltered feeding and resting area

* Natural hedgerows for foraging, wildlife, and a softer landscape

Why this matters

For years, we’ve made the best use of the land we have.

We’ve worked with it, adapted to it… and done everything we can to give our horses freedom, movement, and choice.

We are incredibly lucky to have this land.

But for many years, lack of funding meant we had to make do

* with damaged drainage

* inadequate fencing

* and areas we simply couldn’t use properly

And now… things have changed.

Our herd is ageing.
 And more horses are coming into our care who need that little bit extra.

So while we’ve managed…

we now know we can do better.

What this will change

This project isn’t just about improving land.

It will transform daily life for every horse here.

In winter:

* Safer, continuous movement

* Better support for older and vulnerable horses

In summer:

* Managed grazing

* Healthier weight control

* More natural movement and freedom

Every part of this space will have a purpose. 
And every part of it will support the horses.

This sanctuary exists because of you.

In 2024, you helped us save a barn that was falling down.
Today, it stands as Bessie’s Barn - warm, dry, and safe.

You helped create the Hoitze & Jubbers House and Garden and Hoitze’s Highway, life-changing spaces, especially for our older horses.

And you gave the boys something they’d never truly had before…
a dry, safe shelter of their own.

Then in 2025… it was the girls’ turn.

The Palace and Playground has carried them safely through one of the wettest winters we’ve had for some time.

What once was mud and broken fencing…
has become something truly special.

This isn’t guesswork.

This project has been carefully planned.

Tony Dixon, who led the Palace and Playground project to such a high standard 
has helped design this next phase and will be managing the work again.

We have the knowledge.
 We have the experience.
 We have the team.

Why we’re asking now

We’ve been promised grants before and been let down.

We will still explore what support might be available.

But we don’t want to wait.

is time the horses are living with limitations we know we can fix.
