We Need Your Help!

For 14 years, the Fabienne Colas Foundation has been working hard on improving opportunities for Black Canadian artists, particularly filmmakers. We have grown to include 9 film and cultural festivals across Canada, the U.S., and Brazil that centre Black voices and experiences - not only providing a platform for Black filmmakers, but also bringing these voices to a large audience who may otherwise never hear them.

In addition to the festivals, our Youth and Diversity program has developed and hosted the Being Black In Canada mentorship program, where 15+ aspiring Black filmmakers from across Canada are given everything they need to produce their first short documentary - mentorships with seasoned pros, networking opportunities with industry players, funding, and practical instruction on the art and business of filmmaking.

Our festivals and the #BBIC program both contribute to the kind of long-term, systemic changes the #BlackLivesMatter movement is calling for today - a kind of positive feedback loop, where providing more exposure for Black filmmakers and Black voices inspires empathy and understanding between communities, as well as inspires the next generation of Black filmmakers and artists to pursue the trade.

In order to continue and expand these programs, we need your help! Your donation today will make a huge impact now, and well into the future for Black artists.

The Fabienne Colas Foundation’s Story

Fabienne Colas immigrated to Canada in 2005, looking to further her acting and modelling careers. At the time, she was Haiti’s most popular actor, having just won a ticket d’Or for her role in “Barikad,” as well as being a top model and Miss Haiti winner.

It wasn’t long after her move that Fabienne began to grow frustrated with the lack of opportunities for Black actors - despite her many successes, she could not find consistent work.

That is why she founded The Fabienne Colas Foundation - to create opportunities for Black filmmakers and artists. For 14 years, she and a small team of dedicated supporters and allies have been toiling to improve opportunities for talented Black artists who too often go overlooked on the Canadian arts and cultural scene. Those opportunities are not only here in Canada, but around the globe.
