THE NAKED TRUTH by Joshua Royal

Who am I?
My name is Joshua Royal. I was born in Sri Lanka and adopted to the UK as a baby. I trained as a dancer in London and the USA, and I danced professionally around the UK.   In 2015, I was diagnosed with HIV.

In 2020 there is still a stigma around the subject of HIV despite the fact that you can live a healthy life with it, despite the fact that with the right treatment you can’t pass it on, despite the fact that there is medication to prevent you from catching it.   I want to help take away that stigma.

What is “The Naked Truth”?
The Naked Truth is an online streamed Arts event I am holding for World AIDS Day on 1st December 2020. I am bringing artists from around the world, especially those affected by HIV and AIDS to support my story, get creative and perform for a cause. The aim is to spread positivity, honesty and knowledge through the arts.

There will be opportunities to donate to the Terrence Higgins Trust during the event. The Terrence Higgins Trust aims to educate and raise HIV awareness, end HIV stigma & support those living with HIV AIDS. There will be an auction of signed pointe shoes of Ballerinas: Mara Galeazzi, Cira Robinson & Sasha Mukhamedov running during the event. The funds raised from this will support the event and the artists involved.

Why “The Naked Truth”?
There are still many myths and misconceptions on the subject of HIV. Through dance, music and poetry, this showcase is aimed to strip away these myths and make HIV a fear-free subject.
● If you are diagnosed as HIV positive you can live a long and healthy life.
● When treated correctly, HIV cannot be passed on.
● There is medication (PrEP) available, that when taken correctly, offers almost 100% protection from HIV.   These are facts. This is “The Naked Truth”. We are working hard to promote this event in order to change people’s perceptions, but we need your help.

Where will my money go?
Your donation will help to put on “The Naked Truth”. It will go towards promotion and execution. This funding will allow us to spread positivity around HIV and help end the stigma once and for all. Your money will make a difference to that 63%. It will help change perceptions and allow more people to break free.

How else can I get involved?
Join the movement and attend the event on 1st December 2020.
