The Mx. Nobody Pageant is incredibly important to us because of what it represents. When we started it, we envisioned a space where artists of all types could be validated, celebrated, and even rewarded for their unique contribution to the stage. Our mission to highlight unconventional talent has already surpassed our wildest dreams: we have seen acts of unparalleled strangeness, helped undiscovered superstars launch their careers, and shed tears as our community came together in celebration of our solidarity as outsiders.
And yes, those are lofty words for an underground garbage show where the management has to remind us to lay down a tarp and keep our bottom halves clothed, but that's also part of the joy of this pageant: it's a place where the grungiest basement performances can receive raucous applause and maybe even win a $500 prize.
We also want this pageant to be a way to give back to our community. That means offering free entry. That means paying everyone who works for us, from photographers to judges to graphic designers and beyond. That means donating to charity (this year, Planned Parenthood), because there are people whose need is greater than ours.
We are setting the budget at $1500 to ensure that we can purchase necessary supplies, offer a stipend to all workers, promote the event widely, and otherwise keep the process running smoothly. Any money in excess of this amount will go directly to charity. If we do not make our goal, we remain committed to paying our workers and allowing free entry, even if that means paying out of our own pockets.
Every dollar helps, so even a small donation will make a huge difference. And if you can't give to us, please consider giving directly to a charity that is important to you. And regardless, please attend the event if you are able:
