Hello. We're the Mutchler Family
The month of September has been a major transition for us as a family included packing up a family of nine and moving across the country from Scranton, PA to Fernandina Beach, FL just 3 weeks ago.
We arrived to find our rental home in disarray. Then a mandatory evacuation during Hurricane Matthew— the worst in a decade... And finally, a tragic accident as we were preparing to leave town that has turned our lives upside down and left many things uncertain.
We know there are so many who need help during this time of damages, grief, and loss. But we are praying that someone might hear our story and consider helping us. One thing we are not uncertain about is our faith in Christ and knowing he is our hope.
Josh is an independent owner/operator, who drives truck and is the sole income for the family. Chelle is a stay-at-home mom raising our 7 kids (CJ, Taige, Talen, Bella, Destiny, Makenna, and Cooper) and is also a uterine cancer survivor in remission now for 12 years! But in the past 2 years, Michelle has been very sick with many unexplained illnesses and body pains.
About a year ago, Chelle was finally diagnosed with Lupus. Her doctor suggested that one of the best things for her recovery and to manage her Lupus symptoms would be to live in a climate that was warm year round. So we decided to move our family to Florida and Chelle agreed to be a part of a clinical trial for Lupus.
We made the move the last week of September and literally as we arrived in town, Hurricane Michael made landfall. Before mandetory evacuations took place, Josh had enough time to secure our new home by installing the hurricane shutters our landlord had promised but failed to install.
As Josh finished driving in the last screw, on the last shutter, on the last window on the 2nd floor....he lost his footing on the ladder in hard rain and fell 2 stories, shattering his heel bone in six places.
Josh's trucking business is a major blessing when moving nine of us around the country. But as a sole proprietor with all the associated costs of running a business for himself, a big rig and trailer, fuel cost, paying business taxes, license fees, and surcharges, this injury is a major setback.
As you can imagine, the demands of being a truck driver, like using a heavy clutch, getting in and out of the cab (a lot!), loading and unloading freight and so forth are impossible with the injuries Josh has sustained.
Josh will be unable to work, earn an income, pay expenses, or care for Chelle and the Kids for 8-12 weeks - or likely through the end of the year.
So we're asking for your help!
Josh WAS NOT able to get surgery immediately after the accident. All non-essential surgeries at the local hospital were postponed until this week because of the hurricane.
So he has endured the most pain he has ever experienced in his life and is on "bed rest" until the swelling reduces enough that the doctors can do surgery to repair his foot and heel with plates and screws.
Josh has been told that he may entirely lose the side to side movement of his foot and will most definitely have severe arthritis and require ongoing therapy.
To make a bad situation worse...this happened at a time where we risked a lapse in health insurance coverage with the extraordinary costs of our move, and the surgery itself is going to be extremely costly.
We are at risk of losing the truck and trailer, which is to say our livelihood, and our only source of income. In the short term, we have no way to pay rent, groceries, and monthly household bills. Being really new to the area has left them stranded without a network of friends to help, though our new church is likely to be a big support.
We would be so grateful if you would consider joining others in helping provide for this need through the end of the year or until we have recovered.
We are needing $7500 per month to cover the following expenses for our large family:
1. Truck Lease Payments
2. Rent
3. Basic Utilities
4. Food
5. Household Supplies
6. Medical Bills
We are so thankful for you taking the time to read this, pray for us and with us, and doing whatever you can to help.
