Elsworth Barrington is a Naval Veteran, a 32 Degree Mason and Shriner from Meridian, Idaho. He was on a road trip with some of his fellow Knights of Solomon, Widow Sons on June 11 for a road trip to visit the Masonic Lodges in Northern Idaho. As the trip leader, he was running his one-year-old BMW at the front of the other riders. They traveled from Meridian to North Idaho, where they had stayed in Bonners Ferry, Idaho for the night. The following morning, they had departed Bonners Ferry heading to Hamilton, Montana for a Lodge Meeting. Just out of Thompson Falls, Montana, a yearling calf moose jumped the guardrail into the lane in front of a car. The moose jumped from in front of the car and right into Elsworth on his motorcycle. The two riders behind him thought that Elsworth was traveling about 30 miles per hour and when he hit the moose, it stopped all forward movement. The moose, Elsworth and his prized BMW all ended up in the ditch beside the road. Elsworth was unconscious for 4 to 5 minutes.
Elsworth was Life Flighted from Thompson Falls to Kootenai County Hospital in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, about one hour flight time.
He suffered a brain injury, broken pelvis, cracked sternum, eight broken ribs as well as other injuries. He underwent surgery on June 17, for his pelvic fracture and was placed in a body cast on Wednesday. His wife will be taking the 8-hour drive from their home in Meridian to the hospital for the second time in two weeks tomorrow. His family and friends would like to be able to get him home to continue his recovery, but he is needing a Medical Transport due to his injuries.
Elsworth has some medical insurance, but a number of his costs will not be covered. His recovery time is in excess of three months with most of that time flat on his back.
Some of the medical cost that may not be covered by insurance: Life Flight to the Hospital, Medical Transportation to his home/ Recovery Center.
