With heavy hearts, we share that our beloved husband and father, Mitch Burke, passed away on March 18th after a courageous six-year battle with throat cancer. Throughout it all, he showed incredible strength and resilience. His kindness never wavered, his humor never dimmed, and his passion for life remained an inspiration to everyone who knew him.

During his years as a substitute teacher for the Elk Grove Unified School District, Mitch found a special connection with the students and staff at Markofer Elementary. It became more than just a workplace, it became a place where his passion for education and community could truly shine. He was deeply loved by the students and staff for the warmth, dedication, and laughter he brought with him every day.

To honor and carry on Mitch’s legacy, our family has decided to create a scholarship in his name for the students of Markofer Elementary — a lasting tribute to the love and joy he gave so freely. All donations will go directly toward this heartfelt cause, helping to support the next generation in a place that meant so much to Mitch. This scholarship will provide 2 former Markofer students with $500 towards their tuition at CSU Sacramento.
