The Missing Piece To Surviving Active Shooter
I am a retired police officer, seeking to save the lives of people caught in emergency situations like an active shooter event. To help save lives, I developed the Soteria System, a U.S. patented emergency threat indicator and guidance system that uses laser technology to immediately notify and guide people away from dangerous events like an active shooter. Developing the Soteria system has always been very personal for me. Then, one fateful day in March 2021, it became even more personal. On the evening of March 16, 2021, Kevin Kloth, a close family friend, was one of the two men who lost their lives in the shooting that occurred at the Roundy’s Distribution Center in Oconomowoc, WI.
As a retired police officer and an instructor who taught active shooter training, I watched as both new and veteran officers alike struggled to make critical life-saving decisions when faced with an active shooter event due to the extreme stress of the situation. The idea that this system could one day save countless lives by both thinking for individuals who find themselves in an emergency event and alerting building occupants an emergency event has occurred has motivated me to keep pushing forward despite all obstacles.
That evening in Oconomowoc, officers were called to respond to what was initially believed to be an industrial accident. The two victims were found in two different areas of the building; one on the loading dock and the other in an upper area of the warehouse. As individuals working in the building were unaware a shooting had occurred, the shooter was able to walk through the building and past numerous people before locating his second victim. Had the Soteria system been installed in the building at the time of the shooting, the system would have picked up the very first shot, immediately contacted law enforcement to alert them of the shooting, as well as alerting all building occupants to the shooting and directing them to the safest exits and locations away from where the first shot was fired.
We need your help to get the Soteria System manufactured so that we can feel safe again where we work, play and learn. Please consider contributing to help us build the Soteria System so we can start saving lives.
