We are making "The Missing Piece: A Jigsaw Story," a heartwarming documentary that dives into this surprising and captivating world. Forget what you think you know about puzzling; this film reveals a thriving, diverse community of passionate individuals, many in their twenties and thirties, who find far more than just a pastime in these intricate challenges. For many of them, puzzling is a lifeline, a source of profound joy, and a vital tool for their mental well-being.
Our film spotlights several incredible British competitors whose stories will move and inspire you:
- Emily and Joni, mother and daughter, have found solace and a unique form of enjoyment in puzzling. Emily shares, "I had tried medication, counseling, and therapy… nothing worked like the jigsaws." For Joni, puzzling provides a much-needed mental break: "It gives my mind a rest."
- James and Kasia, a father-daughter duo, describe how they love to puzzle together. Kasia reflects on how puzzling helped her after the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Sarah-Jane, showcases the intense dedication required, sometimes tackling several puzzles a day in the run up to the championship. She recounts her cherished memories of puzzling with her late adoptive father.
- James and Nicki, husband and wife, offer a humorous take on how they have managed to turn a relaxing hobby into something "as stressful as possible".
"The Missing Piece" follows these remarkable individuals on their journey through the World Championship, capturing their dedication, pre-competition jitters, and the wonderful camaraderie they discover.
